Born and raised in Lisbon, the villages of Sintra and Cascais perpetuate opposite realities. Through the daily routines of the inhabitants of the surrounding cities of these two villages and the spaces that surround them, using the railway lines as a conductor brush, a contrasting portrait is painted between Sintra and Cascais, both daughters of Lisbon, a capital city that keeps pushing people and their stories away from it. The railway routes expose a reflected image of the most diverse cities that are part of the Sintra and Cascais lines. A typical day, from morning to night, in Cascais and Sintra is told through moving photographs of spaces and their residents. It is accepted what the inhabited space provides to those who see it, and the chaos, segregation, and carelessness experienced in Sintra are contrasted with the more orderly reality of Cascais.

József trabalha no maior silo de grãos ainda operacional em Budapeste. Ele faz esse trabalho há mais de 30 anos e mora numa casa-contentor próxima à estrutura, onde camiões e comboios passam ruidosamente pela sua janela. Quando o descem aos silos de dez andares para os limpar, ele parece um mergulhador a trabalhar. É um trabalho perigoso para József, até porque ele está exposto ao pó das colheitas há muitos anos. A crescente ameaça à sua saúde pode até levar à sua morte. Mas ele não pode escapar disso. Na verdade, ele parece ter se tornado parte integrante de seu ambiente.
József works at the largest still-operational grain silo in Budapest. He’s been doing this work for more than 30 years, and lives in a container home next to the structure, where trucks and trains rumble past his window. When he is lowered into the ten-story-deep silos to clean them, he looks like a scuba diver at work. It’s dangerous work for József, not least because he has been exposed to crop dust for many years now. The growing threat to his health could even lead to his death. But he can’t escape it. In fact he seems to have become an integral part of his environment.

Desenrola-se uma trama entre três personagens, Manuel, Susana e Juanito, que encontram novos e íntimos significados entre a arte rupestre e a vida local, que determinam (ou parecem determinar) as suas ações. A história é sobre amor e superstição, entre crenças pagãs e cristãs, sobre imagens e sua relação com o tempo.
“Forgotten Gods” has as its main setting the rock art sites of Côa Valley. A plot unfolds between three characters, Manuel, Susana and Juanito, who find new, intimate meanings between rock art and local life, which determine (or seem to determine) their actions. The story is about love and superstition, between pagan and Christian beliefs, about images and their relation with time.
