Um jovem inquieto com cabeça na lua termina mais um turno atrás do balcão de um bar de engate. O regresso a casa é feito pelo caminho mais longo. Há a noite e as sombras que nela se escondem que desejam ser descobertas – antes de a manhã acabar por iluminar aquilo de que não consegue escapar.
A restless young man with his head in the clouds finishes another shift behind the counter of a cruising bar. He takes the longest path on his way back home. He faces the night and its hidden shadows willing to be discovered – before morning comes, unfolding what he can’t escape from.

Num espaço rural, um velho homem recebe a notícia de que a sua falecida mulher foi vista a fazer compras na feira. Revoltado, pretende esconder-se de todos, despeitado e triste, mas os seus amigos insistem para que não dê ouvidos ao povo e aproveite tal facto para se fortalecer e, quem sabe, casar-se de novo. Esta é uma história da delicadeza de se ser velho, do que resta ainda para sonhar e para amar quando a idade avança significativamente e o corpo se enfraquece. Num Portugal antigo e recôndito, que afinal existe, apesar de tudo quanto façamos para nos modernizarmos.
In a rural setting, an old man is told his dead wife was seen at the market. Spiteful and sad, he chooses to hide away from the rest of the world. However, his friends insist that he shouldn’t listen to hearsay. They say he should try to recover and, who knows, even remarry. It’s a story about the delicateness of old age, of what is still left to dream and love when you reach this life stage and the body weakens. It takes place in an ancient and hidden Portugal that still exists in spite of our efforts of modernization.

Fantasmas do Império explora o imaginário colonial no cinema português desde o início do século XX… 100 anos de cinema. Às imagens e narrativas que sustentam o enredo imperialista, contrapõem-se filmes e olhares de cineastas de várias gerações assim como pontos de vista de pesquisadores e testemunhas. Desvendam-se ficções e mitos, máscaras da violenta dominação colonial, que ainda hoje assombram as memórias. A dinâmica de contrastes entre as imagens e as atitudes revela interrogações muito actuais.
Ghosts of an Empire explores the colonial imagination of Portuguese cinema since the beginning of the 20th century.100 years of cinema. As a contrast to the productions that related imperial domination, films and gazes of different generation of Portuguese filmmakers, as well as their testimonies, unmask the myths that have been dressing up the violent gest of colonial exploitation and that still inhabit memories today. The contrasts between the images, the various analyses and attitudes reveal very topical questions.

Along the deep Amazon forest, a film director searches for a language that was imposed to the Indians during the colonization period. Through this mixed language, Nheengatu, and sharing the filming with the local population, the film is built through the meeting of these two worlds.

Wolves leave their lair to freely attack the preys of men locked in their burrows. Both trapped in this huge pitfall called life from where no-one gets out alive.

É Verão em Lisboa e Nicolau é um rapaz indeciso. Entre as dúvidas quanto ao curso universitário a seguir e que tipo de rapariga escolher para sua namorada, Nicolau passa os dias a tentar perceber quem quer ser quando for grande. O problema é que, prestes a acabar os exames do ensino secundário, grande já ele é, sem por isso ter as coisas mais claras. De indecisão em indecisão, Nicolau vai navegando à vista, tendo como única bússola para as suas possíveis escolhas as raparigas por quem se vai apaixonando e com quem imagina outros tantos possíveis futuros.
It’s summer in Lisbon and Nicolau is an undecided boy. Among his doubts about the university course to follow and what kind of girl to choose for his girlfriend, Nicolau spends his days trying to figure out who he wants to be when he is older. The problem is that, about to finish secondary school exams, he’s already old, without having things clearer. From indecision to indecision, Nicolau navigates in sight, with the only compass for his possible choices being the girls he falls in love with and with whom he imagines as many possible futures.
