É uma história com várias camadas de histórias. É sobre o pintor João Ayres (1921-2001), figura em trânsito, entre Moçambique e Portugal, que foi sendo esquecida das cronografias da arte moderna portuguesa, europeia ou africana. É também sobre a sua família – a quem foi deixado um importante acervo da obra – que é aqui representada pela narrativa actual de um dos netos, Diogo Camilo Alves, que tem vindo a pugnar pela conservação e reactivação da arte do avô, no sentido de mais poderem ter acesso a ela. E sobre a casa que construiu e onde viveu, onde permanecem obras suas e a sua memória está viva.
It’s a story with many layers. It’s about the painter Joao Ayres (1921 -2001) an artist in transit between Portugal and Africa who became forgotten in the narrative of Modern Art. It’s also a story about his family, who inherited a significant body of work. One of his grandchildren, Diogo Camilo Alves , the narrator , wants to make his grandfather’s art more accessible and has been fighting for its conservation and restoration. It’s also a story about the house that the painter build, where many of his work still reside and where is memory is very much alive.

Little is known about the mysterious figure of Isabel Santaló, an artist, now forgotten. Occasionally, some visitors come to her apartment. Through them and the voice of António López (“O Sol do Marmeleiro”, Víctor Erice), the only painter who remembers her, we give shape to a polyhedral film.
