Biografia – Realizador

Aos 19 anos, Janina Hüttenrauch recebeu uma bolsa de estudos para a academia internacional de arte de verão em Salzburgo. Lá filmou o curta-metragem “Toys”, premiado com o Prêmio Alemão de Cinema de Direitos Humanos (2º lugar, categoria jovens talentos). No ano seguinte, o seu documentário “The Other Way” ganhou o Prémio de Cinema Juvenil da Baviera com o tema “Bem-vindo a um país estrangeiro”. Após um período bem-sucedido de estudos na Nova Zelândia com foco em cinema, seguiram-se estadias nos EUA e na África. Ela ganhou valiosa experiência nos departamentos de assistente de direção de grandes diretores como Roland Emmerich, Sherry Hormann, İlker Çatak e Florian Henckel von Donnersmarck. Realizou outros documentários, curtas-metragens e filmes publicitários, que foram exibidos em festivais no país e no exterior e alguns deles premiados. De 2022 a 2024 estudou direção no programa de mestrado da Hamburg Media School. Atualmente ela está desenvolvendo seu filme de estreia

Biography – Director (English)

At the age of 19, Janina Hüttenrauch received a scholarship for the international summer art academy in Salzburg. There she shot the short film “Toys”, which was awarded the German Human Rights Film Prize (2nd place, young talent category). The following year, her documentary “The Other Way” won the Bavarian Youth Film Prize on the topic “Welcome to a Foreign Country”. After a successful period of study in New Zealand with a focus on film, stays in the USA and Africa followed. She gained valuable set experience in the assistant director departments of great directors such as Roland Emmerich, Sherry Hormann, İlker Çatak and Florian Henckel von Donnersmarck. She made other documentaries, short films and advertising films, which were shown at festivals at home and abroad and some of which won awards. From 2022 to 2024 she studied directing in the master’s program at the Hamburg Media School. She is currently developing her debut film

Statement / Declaração

O filme fala de relacionamentos disfuncionais dentro da família. Ele trata de temas atuais e socialmente relevantes: a solidão dentro da família, a sensação de estar sobrecarregado, a fuga para fantasias suicidas e violentas e até ataques violentos. O introvertido Michael fica alarmado ao encontrar desenhos de estudantes assassinados no quarto de seu filho Max. Michael está mais do que preocupado. A tentativa de conversar no carro falha dramaticamente e a situação piora. Foi importante para mim contar uma história que capturasse a difícil dinâmica entre pai e filho, caracterizada por diferenças profundas e feridas individuais. Apesar dos obstáculos aparentemente intransponíveis, o foco está na esperança que está enraizada na persistente não desistência do pai. O estilo narrativo é deliberadamente reservado para mostrar autenticamente o conflito interno dos personagens. Ao final, abre-se um espaço de mudança em tons tranquilos.

Statement / Declaration (English)

The film tells of dysfunctional relationships within the family. He deals with current, socially relevant topics: loneliness within the family, the feeling of being overwhelmed, the escape into suicidal and violent fantasies and even rampages. The otherwise introverted Michael is alarmed when he finds drawings of murdered students in his son Max’s room. Michael is more than worried. The attempt to talk together in the car fails dramatically and the situation escalates. It was important to me to tell a story that captured the difficult dynamic between father and son, which is characterized by deep differences and individual wounds. Despite the seemingly insurmountable obstacles, the focus is on the hope that is rooted in the father’s persistent non-giving up. The narrative style is deliberately reserved in order to authentically show the inner conflict of the characters. At the end, a space for change opens up in quiet tones.
