Sinopse
Pedro viaja pela primeira vez numa das carrinhas que leva um grupo de trabalhadores para França. Embora, para os outros, esta seja mais uma viagem de trabalho, cada quilómetro aproxima Pedro de um lugar que o seduz: as colossais montanhas dos Alpes. (NewLine)
Synopsis (English)
A mother is apprehensive about her son’s future away from home. (NewLine)Pedro travels with a group of four older and more experienced men in (NewLine)a van, driving through a storm. On the journey, they discuss the future (NewLine)and the work awaiting them at the end of the trip. Doing this trip for (NewLine)the first time, Pedro is somewhat indifferent to the work assigned to (NewLine)him. Instead, he dreams of the mountains.
Biografia – Realizador
Diogo Salgado estudou Cinema na Escola Superior de Cinema e Teatro de Lisboa, onde se formou com especialização em Imagem. O seu primeiro filme “Through the Haze” estreou no 28.º Curtas de Vila do Conde, onde ganhou o prémio de Melhor Curta Portuguesa. Posteriormente, foi selecionado para o Festival de Cannes, onde concorreu à Palma de Ouro do Curta-Metragem. Neste momento, Diogo Salgado escreve a sua primeira longa-metragem, enquanto +trabalha noutros projetos como escritor, realizador, produtor e diretor de fotografia.
Biography – Director (English)
Diogo Salgado studied Film in the Lisbon Film and Theatre School, where he graduated with a focus in Image. His first film “Through the Haze” premiered in the 28th Curtas de Vila do Conde, where it won Best Portuguese Short. Later, it was selected for Cannes Film Festival, where it competed for the Short Film Palme d’Or. At the moment, Diogo Salgado is writing his first feature film, while +working on other projects as a writer, director, producer and director of photography.
Statement / Declaração
O lugar onde cresci, habitado por famílias da classe trabalhadora, é profundamente marcado pela ausência de homens que buscavam uma vida melhor fora de casa. O protagonista Pedro ainda não é um deles, mas este pode ser um possível início para sua transformação. As gerações anteriores sofreram a mesma desilusão? Essa é a questão central e a motivação deste filme, que pretendo deixar sem resposta.
Statement / Declaration (English)
The place where I grew up, inhabited by working-class families, is deeply marked by the absence of men who sought a better life away from home. The protagonist Pedro is not yet one of them, but this can be a possible beginning to his transformation. Have the previous generations suffered the same disillusionment? That is the core question and motivation for this film, which I intend to leave unanswered.
