Masha Mollenhauer Pronomes: eles/elas. Através da avó de Masha Mollenhauer, que nasceu na Polónia, e das raízes germano-britânicas de Masha, o realizador cresceu com muitas histórias diferentes. Após vários estágios de realização em sets de filmagem, trabalharam em numerosos projetos cinematográficos, incluindo séries, como assistente de realização e supervisor de guião. Masha licenciou-se em estudos teatrais e filosofia, com foco nos papéis de género no cinema, e completou o mestrado em realização cinematográfica na Hamburg Media School em setembro de 2024, onde conheceram a autora polaco-alemã Larissa Jacobsen, que escreveu “THE GOOD WOMAN”.

Masha Mollenhauer Pronouns: they/them Through Masha Mollenhauer’s grandmother, who was born in Poland, and Masha’s German-British roots, the director grew up with many different stories. After several directing internships on film sets, they worked on numerous film projects, including series, as an assistant director and script supervisor. Masha graduated their bachelor’s degree in theater studies and philosophy, with a focus on gender roles in film, and completed their master’s degree in film directing at the Hamburg Media School in September 2024, where they met the Polish-German author Larissa Jacobsen, who wrote „THE GOOD WOMAN“.

“Nem mais uma”, gritaram as mulheres na Polónia depois de Izabela S. ter morrido no hospital em 2021 de uma sepse causada pelo seu feto morto. Os médicos recusaram-se a abortar o feto não viável, pois o Tribunal Constitucional polaco também declarou inconstitucional em outubro de 2020 os abortos em casos de dano grave e irreversível ao feto. Como resultado, a já restritiva lei do aborto foi novamente endurecida e custou a vida a Izabela S. e, segundo investigação do Parlamento Europeu, a outras cinco mulheres. Statement / Declaration (English)

“Not one more”, shouted the women in Poland after Izabela S. died in hospital in 2021 from a sepsis caused by her dead fetus. The doctors refused to abort the non-survivable fetus, as the Polish Constitutional Court had also declared abortions in cases of severe and irreversible damage to the fetus to be unconstitutional in October 2020. As a result, the already restrictive abortion law was tightened again and cost Izabela S. and, according to research by the EU Parliament, five other women their lives. Research shows that bans on abortion do not reduce the number of abortions, but rather push women to undergo dangerous procedures. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), around 39,000 women worldwide die every year as a result of unprofessionally performed abortions. Despite the change of government in Poland, the new draft law for the decriminalization of aid in an abortion was rejected by the government in the summer of 2024. In Germany, too, Section 218 of the Criminal Code makes abortion a criminal offense and thus contributes to the stigmatization of abortion. With this film we not only want to deal with the consequences of the Polish legal situation, but also show how fragile the protection of a woman’s life is in in the middle of Europe even in the 21st century, especially when a woman does not want to fulfill social expectations. A woman who decides for herself, for the life she wants to lead, and the law of her country that lets her die.
