Sinopse

As “Ilhas” do Porto sempre foram bastante negligenciadas, desde que há registos. Provavelmente criadas durante o século XIX devido à rápida industrialização da cidade que gerou um período de imigração em massa para o Porto, as “ilhas” surgiram da necessidade de albergar trabalhadores vindos de várias regiões do país. A partir de testemunhos de moradores mais velhos destes lugares, este filme cria um contraste entre o que eram as ilhas quando eram mais novos e como são agora, de forma a perceber como estes núcleos habitacionais evoluíram ao longo dos anos, expondo as condições de carência destes lugares que se mantêm há anos e o impacto do turismo crescente na cidade, bem como a partir de testemunhos de habitantes mais jovens, criando uma imagem do que poderá ser o futuro deste património municipal, focando-se principalmente na rua de São Vitor, a rua com mais ilhas por metro quadrado no Porto, situada na freguesia do Bonfim, que reúne uma grande variedade de núcleos habitacionais.

Synopsis (English)

The “Ilhas” of Porto have always been quite neglected for as long as there is record. Probably created during the 19th century due to the rapid industrialization of the city that generated a period of mass immigration to Porto, the “ilhas”, or “islands” in english, arose from the need to house workers who came from various regions of the country. Based on the testimonies of older residents of these places, this film creates a contrast between what the “ilhas” were like when they were younger and how they are now, in order to see how these housing centers have evolved over the years, exposing the lack conditions of this places that have remained for years and the impact of growing tourism in the city, as well as from testimonies from younger inhabitants, creating an image of what the future of this municipal heritage could be, focusing mainly on São Vitor’s street, the street with the most “ilhas” per square meter in Porto, located in the parish of Bonfim, which contains a wide variety of housing centers.
