Sinopse Original Original Sinopsis
This film came from my desire of making a musical short while still in college, a genre that is avoided in auteur cinema. Before you watch my film, I alert you to the fact that it isn’t conventional: I consider it my first love letter to excess in queer cinema, in the veins of the highly influential “Querelle”. Thus, the zoom-ins (digital and analogical), flares, the tendency towards kitch as a style, the poor image quality, the cheesy transitions, etc. are reminiscent of an aesthetics pulled form 80s music vídeos. This nostalgia for a time I haven’t even lived comes from my desire of exploring the sexual charge in that iconography, associating it with the fetichism for iconic jobs: the dancer from the morning show and the pizza boy (once my summer job). Pairing this with dialogues and performances inspired by vintage gay pornography, my intention was to create a world admittedly simplified whose nature would allow two boys to act on their sexual attraction as being just that, not a life-long romance. Likewise, with a visual aesthetic lightly inspired by John Water’s filmography and with the choice of gay anthems, I wanted to create a clear homage to queer pop culture. “Goliath’s Henrychment” is a post-modern, post-sexual liberalization musical and a way to heighten the camp factor that our culture should never stray away from. Allow yourselves to be Henryched!
