Sinopse
Synopsis (English)
The announcement of a fatal illness takes Irma to Greece, the kingdom of clarity, where she follows a journey dictated by the god Apollo and guided by the respective sacred places. Some twenty years later, Irma revisits this Apollonian journey. (NewLine)Between João Miguel Fernandes Jorge’s short story (based on a personal testimony of that journey) and the director’s experience, “Fuck The Polis” takes us to the Greek islands, between voices and seas, stones and dances, winds and temples, ruins and corroded gods… (NewLine)It is a film about a deep connection to the world, about a profound attempt to see the world around us, when history coexists with the present, our memories and our subjective feelings dance with the objectivity of the reality that surrounds us.

Statement / Declaration (English)
Initially, I peacefully called this film “Under The Open Sky” – peace, in this case, was precisely letting go of everything in order to be able to see further, in order to appease a restlessness… But by the end, “Fuck the Polis” seamed a most appropriate title, embodying a subtle sense of disillusionment: the world collapsing around us under the indifferent light of any god that might exist; because the film is also about Time, the finitude of things, and Memory. Between Irma (the person) and Fernandes Jorge’s recreation of her; between memories, impressions, notes or images captured during successive trips to Greece; between new encounters and old ones, this film was knitted together under an open sky, trying to interweave Irma’s concerns with our own. The film’s itinerary followed the path of Irma’s “revisitation” of Greece. But it wasn’t about a nostalgic return, but rather about discovery. We were spontaneously diverted from our itinerary when the unpredictable seduced us or when fate took us on other shortcuts, revealing other stones to be lifted from the ground and from the Greek fire, which is, after all, the source of our own.
