Ana Rita Martins (Portugal, 2001) sempre nutriu um especial interesse pelo terror como forma de explorar narrativas cinematográficas. Estudou Ciências da Comunicação no ISCSP em Lisboa, onde explorou as mais diversas áreas da comunicação, o seu interesse pelo cinema e audiovisual levou-a a estudar o Mestrado em Audiovisual e Multimédia na ESCS, curso que frequenta atualmente . ‘Estou Aqui’ é a sua primeira obra, escrita e realizada pela mesma, aborda temas como ansiedade e paralisia do sono, explorando narrativas que tocam no terror e no thriller psicológico.

Ana Rita Martins (Portugal, 2001) has always had a special interest in horror as a way of exploring cinematic narratives. She studied Communication Sciences at ISCSP in Lisbon, where she explored various fields of communication. Her passion for film and audiovisuals led her to pursue a Master’s degree in Audiovisual and Multimedia at ESCS, a program she is currently attending. ‘Estou Aqui’ is her first work, written and directed by her. It addresses themes such as anxiety and sleep paralysis, exploring narratives that delve into horror and psychological thriller.

Statement / Declaração

Este é um projeto que significa muito para mim, não só por ser o meu primeiro, mas por retratar um dos aspetos mais impactantes da minha vida – ansiedade. Idealizado a partir de alucinações derivadas da paralisia do sono, tornou-se uma história que permitiu explorar receios interiores, utilizando o veiculo do sobrenatural. Este projeto tornou-se também uma carta de amor a um género, pelo qual sempre tive uma grande admiração e que sempre me inspirou – o terror. Foi a junção de todos estes aspetos que me permitiu chegar à historia da Verónica, um descontrolo em espiral da sua saúde mental. A curta procurou representar a casa e a nossa própria identidade como algo inquietante e instável, em contraste com a expectativa de que deveriam ser o nosso porto seguro. Pretendeu-se também personificar a sensação de estarmos a perder-nos dentro de nós mesmos, presos numa casa que nós próprios construímos. Este tornou-se o principal objetivo do filme: transmitir uma sensação constante de estranheza e alienação, sem nunca estabelecer uma distinção clara entre o real e o imaginário. A realização deste projeto só foi possível com a dedicação e trabalho da nossa equipa. Este vai ser um momento da minha vida que nunca vou esquecer, tudo graças às pessoas que o ajudaram a tornar real. (EN)

Statement / Declaration (English)

This is a project that means a great deal to me—not only because it is my first, but because it portrays one of the most impactful aspects of my life: anxiety. Conceived from hallucinations brought on by sleep paralysis, it evolved into a story that allowed me to explore inner fears through the lens of the supernatural. It also became a love letter to a genre I’ve always deeply admired and that has continually inspired me—horror. It was the combination of all these elements that led me to Verónica’s story: a spiraling loss of control over her mental health. The short film aimed to represent the home—and our own identity—as something unsettling and unstable, in contrast with the expectation that they should be our safe haven. It also sought to personify the feeling of losing ourselves within our own minds, trapped in a house we’ve built ourselves. This became the film’s central goal: to convey a constant sense of unease and alienation, without ever drawing a clear line between reality and imagination. This project was only made possible thanks to the dedication and hard work of our team. It will forever be a moment in my life that I’ll never forget, all because of the people who helped bring it to life.
