Biografia – Realizador

Paula Tomás Marques (ela/elu, nascida em 1994) é uma cineasta e professora portuguesa que vive entre o Porto e Lisboa. Após concluir uma pós-graduação em Cinema na Elías Querejeta Zine Eskola (San Sebastián), realizou anteriormente uma pós-graduação em Sociologia no ISCTE (Lisboa) e foi inicialmente formada em Direção e Cinematografia na Escola Superior de Teatro e Cinema de Lisboa. Paula Marques realizou os filmes IN CASE OF FIRE (2019), BLINDMAN’S BUFF (2021) e DILDOTECTONICS (2023), explorando temas de género, sexualidade e historiografia. Estes temas são informados pela sua experiência vivida e por uma investigação histórica e sociológica que faz parte da sua prática artística. O seu trabalho tem sido exibido em vários festivais e mostras, incluindo Ann Arbor, Anthology Film Archives e New York Film Festival (EUA), BFI Flare (Reino Unido), Curtas Vila do Conde e IndieLisboa (Portugal), Go Short (Holanda), Kurzfilm Festival Hamburg (Alemanha), Curta Cinema e Olhar de Cinema (Brasil), Festival Internacional de Cinema de San Sebastián (Espanha), Viennale (Áustria), Visions du Réel (Suíça), entre muitos outros, tendo recebido vários prémios. O seu primeiro longa-metragem, TWO TIMES JOÃO LIBERADA, terá a sua estreia na secção Perspectives da Berlinale 2025. Paula Marques também trabalhou como diretora de fotografia, editora e supervisora de guião.

Biography – Director (English)

Paula Tomás Marques (she/they, b.1994) is a portuguese filmmaker and teacher living between Porto and Lisbon. Having completed a postgraduate degree in Filmmaking at Elías Querejeta Zine Eskola (San Sebastián), she previously did a postgraduate degree in Sociology at ISCTE (Lisbon), and was originally trained in Directing and Cinematography at The Lisbon Theatre and Film School. Paula Marques directed the films IN CASE OF FIRE (2019), BLINDMAN’S BUFF (2021) and DILDOTECTONICS (2023), exploring themes of gender, sexuality and historiography. These themes are informed by her lived experience and by a historical and sociological research, which is part of her practice. Her work has been shown in several festivals and screenings, including Ann Arbor, Anthology Film Archives and New York Film Festival (USA), BFI Flare (UK), Curtas Vila do Conde and IndieLisboa (Portugal), Go Short (Netherlands), Kurzfilm Festival Hamburg (Germany), Curta Cinema e Olhar de Cinema (Brazil), San Sebastián International Film Festival (Spain), Viennale (Austria), Visions du Réel (Switzerland), among many others, earning several awards. Her first feature film, TWO TIMES JOÀO LIBERADA has its premiere at the Perspectives section of the Berlinale 2025. Paula Marques has also worked as a cinematographer, editor and script supervisor.
