Biografia – Realizador

Nelson Algomeda (Caracas, Venezuela, 17.05.1989). Cineasta e editor. Realizou documentários curtos para revistas independentes e instituições culturais na Venezuela e Alemanha, assim como para emissoras internacionais como a BBC. A sua última curta-metragem “Memo” estreou no Festival Premiers Plans D’Angers. Estuda Realização Cinematográfica na Deutsche Film- und Fernsehakademie Berlin (DFFB) desde 2018.

Biography – Director (English)

Nelson Algomeda (Caracas, Venezuela, 17.05.1989). Filmmaker and editor. He has directed short documentaries for independent magazines and cultural institutions in Venezuela and Germany, as well as for international broadcasters like the BBC. His last short film “Memo” premiered in Festival Premiers Plans D’Angers. He studies Film Direction at the Deutsche Film- und Fernsehakademie Berlin (DFFB) since 2018.

Esta é a história de um regresso. Este é um drama familiar contado através das sensações, sons, texturas e emoções que Rosalinda sente quando regressa à Venezuela, a sua casa. Queremos mostrar a sua ansiedade, poder e prazer através da música que preenche o ar, dos olhares hostis que a desafiam e da natureza selvagem que a abraça. Regressar a casa faz-nos pensar nas formas como o nosso lugar de origem mudou desde que o deixámos, como continuou sem a nossa presença. Que expectativas carregamos com o nosso regresso? A “casa” como a conhecemos ainda existe? E os traumas que deixámos para trás, ou os simples prazeres que esquecemos ao longo dos anos? E depois há outro medo: a “casa” vai reconhecer-nos? Como venezuelano que vive no estrangeiro e vê como o meu país está num estado constante de crise, estas questões ressoam profundamente.

Statement / Declaration (English)

This is the story of a return. This is a family drama told through the sensations, sounds, textures and emotions that Rosalinda feels when she returns to Venezuela, her home. We want to show her anxiety, power and enjoyment through the music that fills the air, the unfriendly looks that challenge her and the wild nature that embraces her. Going back home makes us think of the ways that our place of origin has changed since we left it, how it moved on without our presence. What expectations do we carry with our return? Does “home” as we know it still exist? What about the traumas we left behind, or the simple pleasures that we forgot over the years? And then there’s another fear: will “home” recognise us back? As a Venezuelan who lives abroad and sees how my country is in a constant state of turmoil, mass emigration and change, this subject means everything to me. We hope audiences relate to how personal and intimate this story is, and that they can connect to Rosalinda’s trip, feel her surroundings, and that longing for home resonates in them as well.
