Em “Os Fotocines” é criado um retrato íntimo da guerra colonial portuguesa com aqueles que a ela sobreviveram. Este documentário tenta investigar aqueles que durante a guerra tiveram a responsabilidade simultânea de lutar, defender as suas próprias vidas e registar permanentemente essa missão colectiva, através da fotografia e do filme.

In THE PHOTO-CINES an intimate portrait of the Portuguese colonial war is created with those who survived it. This documentary feature attempts to investigate those who during the war had the simultaneous responsibility of fighting, defend their own lives and permanently record that collective mission, through photography and film.

Mensagem do Realizador Director Statement
Developing the documentary feature THE PHOTO-CINES allowed me for the first time to approach the Portuguese Colonial War. The project sprung up by chance among my uncle’s photo albums and his mysterious silences. Fate brought me straight back to the starting point, allowing me to reveal a small part of such a repressed subject among all Portuguese families. To understand who was behind the cameras, I had the help of several former soldiers who gave their testimonies on that period in time, the close relation between RTP and the Army, while also sharing their own experience of being Photo-Cine Shooters in Africa.
