“Camaradas de Armas” mostra de perto a vivência dos jovens que escolheram deixar a vida civil para se tornarem militares na força especial da marinha, os fuzileiros. Acompanhamos aquilo que realmente acontece durante o percurso destes rapazes no curso de Praça Fuzileiro.

Comrades in Arms shows, in a very personal way, the experience of the young men who choose to leave being the life of a civilian to become part of the navy at the Escola de Fuzileiros/Marine School of the Portuguese Navy. We follow what really happens along these boys’ journey through the course that will lead them into becoming a marine.

What exists behind what is shown by the Armed Forces? As many others, I too want to know the other side of the story of each soldier. With the documentary “Camaradas de Armas” (Comrades in Arms) my goal was to show something different. All of us think we know that life from the images that are shown to us in movies or news’ reports, but there are a lot of emotions that we can’t even fathom. As I got to know that world, I came across many moments I could never have imagined and that forced me to adapt the film to this unknown reality. As a documentary filmmaker, I enjoy giving the people I film the opportunity to be themselves and giving them the screen time they need for that. While being present but respectful, I was able to get the ease I was looking for from each of the young men and instructors I filmed.

Biografia do Realizador Director Biography

Catarina Henriques was born on March 30th 1996 in the town of Barreiro, Portugal. She has a degree in Design and Multimedia Animation from the Polytechnic Institute of Portalegre. Henriques has also finished her Master in Cinema from the University of Beira Interior. “Camaradas de Armas” (Comrades in Arms) is her first documentary.
