O escritor e fotografo Osseily Hanna (autor de “Música e Coexistência”, ed. Bizâncio, 2018) sente uma ligação emocional com abelhas. Sem editor para o seu novo projecto e sem garantias quanto à sua carreira de escritor, Osseily observa o rápido progresso da degradação ambiental do nosso planeta e decide viajar até à África Oriental (Quénia e Uganda). Para Osseily, tudo está em risco. Desde a sua carreira de escritor, ao futuro da espécie humana.
My Little drop of Honey é um filme sobre resiliência, sacrifício e nossa relação com a natureza. É uma história contada na sombra da destruição ambiental iminente, mas iluminada por pessoas que lutam para manter o equilíbrio com a natureza. O filme documenta a luta de um homem cuja decepção com a espécie humana o leva a estabelecer uma relação e identificação pessoal com abelhas, embora de maneira frustrante e impossível. Na sua tentativa de encontrar outros seres humanos que adotam uma relação harmoniosa com a natureza, Osseily procura histórias de esperança sobre as quais possa escrever. A viagem é o testemunho de um momento particularmente desafiador na vida de Osseily Hanna, mas também dos desafios já enfrentados hoje por aqueles que ele encontra ao longo do caminho. É uma jornada de alegria e frustração, onde a esperança luta para encontrar o caminho até à superfície

Osseily Hanna is a struggling writer with a strong connection to bees. He has no publisher, no future prospects for his writing career, and no security net waiting for him at home. As he sees the rapid progress of environmental degradation of our planet, he takes a gamble: he travels to East Africa (Kenya and Uganda) in order to finish his book about environment and social inequality. For Osseily, everything is at stake. From his writing career, to the future of the human race.

My decision to make this film was very instinctive. I have been Osseily’s friend for many years and I knew he had been working on this book for a while. The story itself, however, only became clear to me as the shooting and editing process progressed. Initially, I felt it was important to tell the story of a writer struggling to see his work published, taking a major gamble to finish his book, while also struggling against a much bigger and more serious issue: climate change. However, as I started seeing how Osseily was connecting to bees in a rather obsessive way – in what seemed to me as a defense mechanism to deal with his disappointment regarding human behaviour – this relation became something much more interesting to portray. The paradox of Osseily’s search for inspiring fellow humans to write about (and whose stories are a vital part to understand his own journey as well), while being unable to shake away a certain despair about human behaviour in general, was what I found most interesting in the end. It was this paradox that I wanted the audience to be left with, so that each one of us understands that we all have a part to play in our collective future, even when the challenges that we face seem insurmountable. Making ​MY LITTLE DROP OF HONEY was not easy. I got to know about Osseily’s decision to head to Africa only a couple of weeks before his departure, which meant I had very little time to prepare. It ended up being a wild ride, with a few stressful moments and a few bee stings. Osseily’s part in the project was crucial, as besides being the main character, it was through his eyes that we got to know the other characters in the journey, and he was also the person organizing the entire journey from Kenya to Uganda. In terms of shooting itself, I had to manage both audio and cinematography, as I was working alone. I mostly tried not to intervene and let the scenes flow naturally (keeping the shot going for as long as I could). I ended up relying on the audio tracks to allow me to move around and get enough coverage of the scenes without breaking continuity. I opted to use my own camera, a Canon C200, and two zoom lenses (a sigma 18-35, and a Canon 70-200, plus a 2x extender) as the pace of the shooting didn’t cater well to using primes. It was a good decision as it allowed a lot of flexibility without much compromise on image quality.

Biografia do Realizador Director Biography
Born in 1983, Daniel M. Silva is a Portuguese filmmaker with formal education in law. He has studied film in Czech Republic and Denmark and regularly works as freelance cinematographer and editor, having established his media company – Synedoc Films – in 2019, in Denmark. Daniel has previeoulsy worked on other independent documentary films, focusing on social and environmental issues.
